Preventing rental lockouts starts before check-in

A practical guide to reducing preventable rental lockouts with tested codes, batteries, Wi-Fi, app control, and fallback entry.

Pre-arrival check
  1. 01 Guest code tested at the keypad.
  2. 02 Battery level checked.
  3. 03 Remote status confirmed.
  4. 04 Wi-Fi checked near the entry.
  5. 05 Fallback entry documented.

A lockout is usually not one single failure.

It is a small chain: an old code, weak batteries, app access that no one controls, or Wi-Fi that does not reach the entry.

Check the lock like a guest will use it

Test the keypad at the door. Do not rely only on the app showing a code. A code that exists in the dashboard still needs to work at the property.

Confirm the control path

The owner or manager should know who controls the lock, which app owns it, and whether remote status still updates. Shared or unknown access creates support friction.

Keep fallback access real

A lock system is not support-ready until physical backup access is known, available, and documented for the right person.
